Event: Spring Business Conference
Date: Ongoing
GW Women in Business will launch this spring our first ever business conference featuring top professionals from a variety of industries. We hope this day-long event will benefit not only the GW community but also offer our members a priceless learning opportunity when planning the conference and allowing them to network with some of DC's most important business men and women. This year, we will welcome former CEO and Chairman of DuPont, Chad Holliday to give our keynote address as well as a number of panelist speakers from Deliotte, Founding Farmers, the World Bank, and more.
Event: NYC Trip
Date: Ongoing
Our fall trip to New York City is our annual piéce de rèsistance and something our members always look forward to. Each year, GWWIB takes 20 to 30 hand-selected members on the two-day informational trip. The trip provides GWWIB members with the opportunity to use their academic and networking skills in a professional environment to seek out internships and career opportunities. It’s oriented towards helping active members apply their knowledge, and utilize this experience to seek out internships and career opportunities. In order to satisfy our member’s varying areas of interest in the corporate world, GWWIB plans site visits at a variety of different corporate industries. This Fall 2009, GWWIB visited Kramer Levin, Tishman Speyer, Bloomberg, and TD Securities. In the past our range of company visits include Ogilvy & Mather, Wall Street Journal, NBC Universal and more. The site visits help members gain an important perspective not only on a day in the life of an industry professional, but also the personal journey of women in that company. Members also look forward to our evening activities including a group dinner followed by a Broadway musical.
Event: DC Site Visits
Date: Ongoing
GWWiBers will be the first to take advantage of our wonderfully cultured and powerful hometown of Washington, DC. Over the course of the year, the executive board plans events to museums, embassies, as well as governmental agencies like the Pentagon. As fun as these site visits seem to be to our members, we feel that they offer an important perspective to business students- after all, a good businesswoman knows more about the world than just business.
Event: Social Events
Date: Ongoing
The GWWiB Executive Board always enjoys planning social events for our members. We organize a number of movie nights, dinners, and even an annual holiday party to engage our members and give them an opportunity to network with each other as well as socialize with other girls interested in business. GWWiB also partners with local businesses that our members frequent to offer them discounts.
Event: Philanthropy Events
Date: Ongoing
GW Women in Business, like all other business entities, has eagerly embraced the movement of social responsibility. Instated in our mission statement, GWWIB is an organization of “Women Helping Women.” We have reached out to two specific local charities, the School without Walls and Second Chance Employment Services. The School Without Walls is a high school located on the GWU campus. Over the past two years, we have formed a mentoring program with girls from the school. Pairing GWWIB members up with students, this mentorship program helps the high school girls with college applications, preparation and next steps in the professional world. GWWIB also hosts a variety of on-campus fundraisers for Second Chance Employment Services, which is an organization that helps formerly abused women gain the skills and contacts of securing employment and become self sufficient.
If you would like to get involved with the program, please contact gwwib@gwu.edu for more information.
